What does apartment insurance cover?

An apartment insurance is divided into two parts: property and civil liability.

Your property
  • The contents of your dwelling and any personal property that may be temporarily off the insured premises
  • Supplemental living expenses incurred following a loss, i.e., expenses a family would not ordinarily incur in the course of daily living
Civil liability Apartment insurance protects you against the financial consequences of civil liability for bodily injury or property damage involuntarily caused to others. Personal liability covers not only the insured premises but also your personal everyday activities, wherever you are in the world.

If you are sued for damages covered under this protection, SSQauto will cover the full cost of your defense.

Certain conditions and limitations apply.

Make sure you have enough coverage!

To determine how much you need, everything depends on the value of your property and the building you live in.

  • Value of your property: An updated inventory will help you better assess your insurance needs and make your life easier in the event of a loss. Find out more about making a property inventory (Insurance Bureau of Canada website).
  • Value of the building: Renters insurance also covers your personal liability. To determine the liability amount, it is important to consider the type and value of the building you live in, among other things. Your liability will differ depending on whether you live in a two- or sixty-unit building.
